Jack Feldman
When Jack was 12 years old his grandfather gave Jack his 1943 Rolleicord camera. Fascinated both by its mechanics and the images it produced, Jack quickly became an avid, self-taught photographer. His talents were recognized at a young age. By 16 Jack’s photographs were displayed at art exhibitions and purchased by collectors of fine art photography.
While in high school and college Jack spent summers working on, then helping to run a cattle farm. This work intensified his curiosity for understanding how things work – how the farm works as a business and how to use imagery to deconstruct machinery and structures in order to figure out how to repair and construct them.
In his first few years of college Jack was busy with his academics and business endeavors. Then one day in his senior year he bought a saw, wood glue, a clamp and wood scraps. After a few hours and some minor cuts he created a walnut and maple lap desk. Jack not only enjoys the design component of woodworking, but also the problem-solving aspect of it - for Jack, every piece solves a problem whether it's a wooden coaster protecting a table underneath or a new workshop jig to help make a certain type of cut easier.
